Summer is on the horizon, which means one thing to music fans and groupies: Concert season. While concert-going seems a simple enough pastime, extreme concert-goer Steve Weinberger’s insider tips and tales, outlined in his new book No Air Guitar Allowed, help solve concert perplexities small and tall, like how to master the beer to bathroom ratio.

Weinberger, who has been to over 1,000 rock concerts, beginning with KISS in 1977, hilariously spotlights the characters each of us have encountered at rock concerts, from the “Old School Scalper” to “The Tall Guy,” “The Urinal High Fivers” “The Makeout Couple” and “The Chatty Cathy.” Pure nostalgia.

“You come to that point in your life where you think, ‘How will I leave my mark? What is it that will give me the glory that Gene Simmons enjoys, besides being in a committed relationship with a former Playboy model?’ Weinberger asked. “That’s when I knew I needed to write this book.”

“Some people, after reading the book, ask with concern why I chose to poke fun at the concert-goers described within its pages,” Weinberger said. “The fact is I’m not. I’m giving due respect to those who make a concert the best form of entertainment available. Truth be told, I have personified nearly every character in the book at some point.”

Weinberger’s muse for the book was a co-worker, and while that sounds very romantic, it’s actually not. The woman sounded an awful lot like Karen from TV’s Will and Grace and, after Steve recounted one of his tales of concert lore, her response was, ‘You’re so full of useless knowledge; you should write a book.’
